PREFACE
Part One of Travels in Korea contains the stories about what i saw and heard during my sojourn in the Democratie People's Republic of Korea which lasted for about one month from March 31 to April 28, 1972. On that occasion l visited Korea for the first time as a member of the Japanese cultural workers delegation which consisted of seven members. Being a mere journalist, 1 feit somewhat undeserved to be a member of such a delegation. Its members were Ishino Keiichiro, Erna Akiko, Okamoto Aihiko (chief secretary), Fujishima Makabe Jin, Yamane Ginji (head of the delegation) and me.

Part Two contains my second travel sketches. 1, along with Mr. Yada Kinichiro, cameraman, paid another visit to Korea from September 4 to October 2, 1973, the year following my first visit. When we lelt for Korea we were accompanied by Mr. Midorigawa Toru of the Iwanami Shot-en Publishers. The exact fitte of this book should have been Travels in the Democratie People's Republic of Korea, bul- l have cut it short as it is to° long. Accordingly, the words "Korea" and the "Republic" to be found in the text refer to the Democratie People's Republic of Korea. Part One was ...........
