ICELAND
Iceland is one of the great stepping stones between America and Europe. It is disputed whether it belongs to the Western or Eastern Hemisphere. Geographically it is closer to the great land-masses of the American continent than to Europe. It would therefore be natural to regard it as the easternmost outpost of America.
The people of Iceland and its culture are, however, completely European. Of the many nations that inhabited America before white men ever saw it, those living in the northernmost parts are called Eskimos. As far as we know they have never penetrated to Iceland.
